Independent Energy designed a solar system to supplement an existing diesel generator grid in Mogadishu, Somalia, where there is very little access to electricity. This 2 MW solar installation, which includes all power distribution panels and hardware, providing solar energy to the grid during the day. All of the main distribution components are housed in a solar container complete with solar roof. The system with 5000 solar panels installed and a capacity of 2.000 kWp (2 MWp), generates approximately 3,4 GWh per year, saving a staggering 1 million litres of diesel each year.
